April Update: "Fruit Punch!"




Greetings Space Citizens!

This time we're bringing in some classic RPG goodies in the form of... random encounters! Combat in the game has now been hugely expanded and now you can come across all sorts of enemies while exploring the ship! 💥

These can range from your old friends the Psychic Mushrooms (easy!) to ShipGov patrols (super hard!). Some of them are enabled by completing certain quests, and others depend on which group or faction is controlling a location. To help you get through these tough alleyway encounters we've also added healing items! Head over the Shoporium and stock up - you're gonna need 'em.

We're also very excited to introduce some of our first music tracks which you'll probably notice right away! These depend on the time of day, and a few also revolve around combat too. Overall the ship is now a much groovier place to be and we plan on adding a ton more in our next update! 🎵🎵🎵

Check out the patch notes below for all the other changes and improvements we've made. It's another big one as we've been ramping up our production. Next month will be focused on music, and some super secret new features!

- April "Fruit Punch!" Patch Notes -

New Content:

  • Added system for random combat encounters on the ship using the 'explore' button.
  • ShipGov Patrols, Syndicate Agents, Psychic Mushrooms and the Cursed Cat are now possible enemies to encounter.
  • Combats can occur in the Agroponics, Alley, Docks, Market areas, Processing and the Slums. Chances will vary depending on quests completed and faction control of the location.
  • Added system for using healing items in combat. You can purchase these at the Shoporium.
  • Added music tracks for the game depending on the time of day, and for combat + some combat sfx.
  • Added numerous new icons from the openmoji project.

Tweaks:

  • Credits awarded for victory in combat now depend on enemy type and are generally much higher.
  • Syndicate now has faction control in the Alley and Slums (but this is unmarked for the player currently)
  • ShipGov now has faction control in Mad Eddy's and the Shoporium.
  • The 'Siv' / 'Serf' divide has been resolved.
  • Topbar is now insensitive by default during intro quests.
  • Topbar is now insensitive when using the shops.
  • Topbar tooltips should now be disabled when using the shops.
  • Transition into shops should now fade in.
  • Small edits to Marketa's first quest.
  • Small edits for a number of miniquests.
  • Minor adjustments to popups and other UI elements for combat.
  • New icons for charmenu.
  • New pop effects for charmenu icons.
  • Added pop effects to battle buttons.
  • Added pop effects to some shop buttons.
  • New splash image for the game.

Technical:

  • Added Shoporium, Mad Eddy's, and Alley to the location data system.
  • Minor optimization of the 'explore' button's code.
  • Changed how the location system handles displaying text to make it much more usable.
  • Changed timing of combat rounds and ai responses.
  • Added Syndicate and Shipgov combats to the debug menu.
  • Serf naming now uses proper group code.
  • Added ShipGov soldier character + NAS assets.
  • Added Syndicate agent character + NAS assets.
  • Partially converted some music and sfx files to a better format.
  • Removed some old atl animations.

Fixes:

  • Fixed state bug when the enemy blocks attacks.
  • Fixed frozen 'navigation' popup bug.
  • Fixed topbar offset bug.
  • Fixed occasional phantom selection of previous purchased items.
  • Fixed the rogue close button at the Shoporium.
  • Fixed debug options in the main menu not looping back to start properly.
